April Abridgment

April is the month, that my boys came down from Heaven.
Baby Deacon has turned one, and Nate turned twenty-seven.

A student at the hospital, bought Ben Folds tickets for a date,
But he had to go with Nathan, 'cause he asked his girl too late.
So Nathan sprang for dinner and they shared an ice cream sundae.
It crossed his mind much later, that last part seemed quite gay.

He went on a four-man fishing trip, and a lesson they did learn:
With no women to pack sunscreen, they all received a burn.

He also had exciting news, several letters from Weber State.
Acceptance to four new programs--so now what is our fate?
He's leaning towards Nuke Med, and another year I'll pine.
But the end is getting closer---Arizona in Two-Thousand Nine!

Deacon has a new craving, eating raw potatoes!
But him sneaking in the pantry is the last of all my woes---
I found him splashing in the toilet (I didn't shut the bathroom door).
Nate sought to reassure, saying, "Don't worry, it's happened before."
Those are not the 'comforting' words, a mother wants to hear.
Multiple forays in the toilet...but he barely turned one year!?!?

March Missive

He asked & asked, but I said NO. I should have put it in writing!
'Cause somehow he convinced me, now my nails I can't stop biting.
I'm pretty sure he drugged me, why else would I agree?
To let him buy a
red fast bike; a Honda Seven-Fifty?
If anyone deserves it, it's the father of our kiddo.
But I told him I will kill him, if he makes me a widow.

Deacon's learned some painful tricks, he's such a little vandal.
He lifts my shirt, bares his teeth, and BITES on my love handle!
He too, has had some pain, and it makes my face go pale.
He cut his hand, has a shiner, and almost lost a toenail.

I'd like to say it all happened, under daddy's watchful eye.
But if you guess who took the pics, you know that is a lie.

He tripped while walking and hit his eye, dropped a can of corn on his toe, and
grabbed his formula lid from the trash and cut his finger.

I went to the dry-pack cannery, to volunteer one night.
I didn't get "the memo" and was met with quite a sight---
Everyone had a partner (the one for "all eternity")
I guess it was Mormon Date Night, for everyone but me.
We sorted beans, and rice, and oats. We packed a ton of wheat.
I rocked that required hairnet, with booties on my feet.

February Findings

This month we had one "extra" day,
And still it seemed to get away.
I see another poem is due,
So here it is--our monthly review:

Nathan's done well with his exercise plan,
Twenty pounds lighter! I'm proud of my man.
Our poor neighbor, Laurel--she had a backache.
Nathan decided to make her some cheesecake.
It seems other neighbors have since "found out."
Now their backs are hurting, what's that all about? : )

I've finished a book that I'm embarrassed to name.
It's not a trashy novel, but I'm abashed all the same.
Is it due to the fact that it's written for youth?
Is that why I feel so strange and uncouth?
I read it at the library and thought it was great!
As did the girl behind me........yes, she was eight.

Deacon's getting sassy & it's starting to show,
He shakes his head fast, and says, "No-No!"
He likes to make forts, in every small nook;
And drag in his blanket, a toy, or a book.
He's starting to wave and can barely say "Hi."
His grin is a drug that money can't buy.

This month we sold our house near the college.
The home that taught Nate his remodeling knowledge.
I love 'Before/After' photos, so they're here in a link,
Nathan did most the work, right down to the sink.
But he wants a disclaimer to go with these pics:
"It was my first job & there's things I would fix"
We moved from this house almost 2 years ago,
But went back one last time, to say 'bye to old Joe.

January Journal

I almost skipped this month's poem,
But not for lack of bustle at home.
What could it be that had me so wary?
Not much rhymes with Jan-u-ary!

Nate's doing great with his workout routine.
Soon you will see him, all fit and lean.
Six days a week, he goes for a jog.
In ten degree weather, through all the fog.
One neighbor said, "Your hubby is crazy...
....to run so early, with everything hazy."

I tried to quit my job-----again.
This makes nine times, or is it ten?
My firm is great, I can't gripe a bit,
I work twice a week & get full benefits.
So I gave up, and promised to stay.
Next time I'll bargain for a little more pay :)

Deacon is growing by leaps and bounds
He's tipping the scales at twenty-five pounds.
Crawling on furniture, and up every stair,
All sorts of things that give us a scare.
And who can forget the crock pot trauma?
Not a good trick to play on a mama.

Tthere was one thing, we did retire,
The pump I've longed to throw in a fire.
Five times a day, my milk it would rid,
Nate says it got more action than he did!

P.S. My Valentine's gift came a bit early,
It arrived in the hands of a man so burly.

Christmas Conspectus

Off to Arizona, for the Christmas holiday,
Load up the car and we're on the way.
Twelve hours of driving to visit our 'fam',
The car packed tight with all we could cram.
Deacon was great, as we traveled down.
No screaming, no crying, not even a frown.

Christmas Eve with the Hunts, and we each brought a gift.
For an Elephant Exchange that made our lips lift.
Dad's was the best, and we all heard the moan,
As Lindsay unwrapped an ancient cell phone.
Our son was excited, to play with the kitten.
He'd stroke it and pet it, I'd say he is smitten.

Then off to the Gavin's to spend Christmas Day,
“Mom's meals are the best,” is what I always say.
But what's this mom is serving? A lump of coal?
No, just a 'wheat rock'---disguised as a roll. Ü
Now time for presents, Deacon opened his toys.
He's not sure what it is, but it makes a fun noise.

Christmas Conspectus Continued...

Back to the Hunt's for Callie's BIG presentation.
We were rolling with laughter at each observation.
The video is a secret---that's all I can say,
Maybe you'll see it on YouTube someday!

The next few days....don't need to be known.
Suffice it to say, we both 'knelt at the throne'.
We got over our sickness, and went on our way,
To the Marx's in Vegas, for an overnight stay.

We got back on the road and then stopped to eat.
There were lots of stares when we picked our seat:
It was a bank parking lot, on a small patch of grass.
We were having a picnic, after buying some gas.
We must have looked homeless (we were dressed pretty crummy).
Maybe that's why the stares, and the offers of money!

Now we're back home in the “Land of Zion”
Arizona was great, but next time----we're flyin'.

November Narration

Deacon 'helping' me pack for AZ

I thought November had just begun,
And now I see the month is done.
Time for an update, from the Hunt House;
Sit back & read---don't touch that mouse :)

Two nights a week, hubby works a grave.
Alone at the hospital, he better behave.
He's done with his classes until '08,
That sums up the month for Nate.

Aubrey flew to AZ for over a week,
To see Elder Gavin return home & speak.
His airplane came in, close to midnight,
We all surprised him at the end of his flight.

Deacon also flew (for the very first time),
He was so good, he gets his own rhyme.
He had some teeth finally poke through,
The bottom front, not one—but two!

Nate couldn't fly home, what bad luck.
For his Thanksgiving meal, he ate a duck!
November is over, and December is here,
Another poem waits at the end of this year.

September Summation

Can you believe Nathan tried to take Deacon in public wearing this outfit?! Stained navy blue striped socks, a onesie with puppy dogs on it, and camouflaged pants with remnants of lunch on the front. I had to take a picture because it will never happen again!

September Summation
It's only September, yet starting to cool,
Time for Nathan to go back to school.
Aubrey's at work, three days a week.
Our son learned to crawl, ''Way to go, Deac!''
We were set to move on Saturday the eighth,
We found that moving requires great faith.
We sold our home in less than three days,
But said, "Cross our fingers until the bank pays."
They finally did on September twenty,
Finally--our fingers were sure bruised plenty.
We were just settling in---a bit over a week,
When the Bishop dropped by and asked us to speak!
Nathan on preparedness, both in physical and spirit,
He had a great story, you should call him to hear it!
'Blessings of Conference' was Aubrey's topic,
The big crowd made her wish that she was myopic.
Our month flew by, I'm sure yours did too!
Drop us a line, "What did you do?"
